Aus der Wickeljacke, die ich “halt mal schnell” stricken wollte, wird langsam aber sicher ein nerviges Objekt. Natürlich geht mir jetzt die Wolle aus, also mußte ich den ersten Ärmel unten wieder auftrennen und teilweise aufziehen, jetzt kommt da halt ein helleres Stück dran. Gut, es sollte eh kein vornehmes Stück werden, sondern eher ein Jäckchen für den heimischen Schreibtisch, was soll’s, Hauptsache der Wollvorrat ist abgebaut

The little cardigan I wanted to knit “quick and easy” is now a little hate project. Of course I haven’t enough yarn and so I had to rip the beginning of the first sleeve and now there’s a little piece in a other color. Who cares, I want this cardigan only for my work in my private office and not for an official dinner. The main thing is to reduce my stash

Und ich weiß nun, wer mein Secret Pal war! Es ist Sabrina und ich möchte ihr nochmal ein dickes Dankeschön sagen für die wundervollen Pakete, die sie mir geschickt hat!

Und wenn nichts dazwischen kommt (ich also nicht vom Blitz erschlagen werde ), werde ich nächste Woche in London Yvonne kennenlernen, die witzigerweise der Spoilee von Sarah war, die wiederum mein Spoilee war bei SP9, die Welt ist ein Dorf!!

If all goes well (and I will not be strucked by lightning ) I will meet Yvonne in London next week. Yvonne was the spoilee of my spoilee Sarah, it’s a small world!

Und weil auch in dieser Runde alles so wunderbar gelaufen ist, habe ich mich für Secret Pal 10 angemeldet.

Secret Pal 9

Secret Pal 9 ist vorbei und seit Montag ist nun auch mein Abschlußpäckchen in Ohio angekommen: Ich durfte Sarah verwöhnen und sie war der beste Spoilee, den man sich wünschen kann, sie freute sich über die Päckchen, bloggte regelmäßig und hatte für die Verspätung Verständnis: Liebe Sarah, es war ein Vergnügen, dich zu beschenken!
Mein Secret Pal hat mir wahnsinnig tolle Päckchen geschickt, nur leider weiß ich immer noch nicht, wer sie ist. Deshalb hier an dieser Stelle der Aufruf, sie möge sich doch bitte outen. Ich bin neugierig auf ihren Blog und möchte ihr persönlich danken.
Bis Ende Februar hat man noch Zeit, sich zu Secret Pal 10 anzumelden. Und weil auch in dieser Runde die Sache ein einziger Spaß für mich war, denke ich schon, daß ich mich wieder anmelde.

Secret Pal 9 is over and last Monday my last parcel arrived in Ohio. My spoilee was Sarah and she was the best spoilee you can imagine. (Perhaps in the next round of SP there’s a contest for the best spoilee too ) I think she was happy about the gifts, she was blogging regularly and she was so patient when I sent the last parcel too late. Dear Sarah: thank you for the nice time, it was a pleasure for me to be your secret pal!
My secret pal sent me great and very generous parcels. Unfortunately I don’t know who she is. Wanted: my secret pal! Please come out! I want to read your blog and I want to say thank you!!
This round was a big fun for me and I think I will join SP10. You can sign up until February 28.

Ja, es gibt mich noch Aber ich habe gerade so viel zu tun, daß ich fast nicht zum stricken komme, geschweige denn zum Bloggen. Das soll nun wieder besser werden.
Die Hauptleidtragende an meiner mangelnden Freizeit ist mein Spoilee, denn sie mußte auf ihr Abschlußgeschenk warten. Aber sie ist so großartig, daß sie mir das nicht übelgenommen hat. Heute geht nun das Paket auf den Weg nach Ohio.
Hier haben wir einen Cozy, gestrickt aus einem 270 Gramm Strang Kauni, er ist lang geworden: fast 2,30m und 0,54m breit. Das ist das woran ich die letzten Wochen gestrickt habe, wenn ich mal Zeit hatte und ich bin froh, daß er nun fertig ist.

Yes, I’m still alive I have so much to do at work that there’s no time to blog or to knit a lot. But I hope, it will be better now. The one who suffers is my wonderful spoilee. Secret pal 9 is finished and she is still waiting for her last parcel. But she is so patient and nice and today the parcel will be shipped to Ohio. Here is her gift: a Cozy, knitted with 270g Kauni and it’s a big Cozy, nearly 2,30m x 0,54m. That’s what I knitted the last weeks when I had time for it and I’m happy that it’s finished.

Als das Ungetüm gestern dann gewaschen und gespannt war, habe ich zur Entspannung neue Socken für mich angeschlagen aus Mega Boots Stretch, die Farbe kannte ich noch nicht, habe sie am Samstag beim bummeln entdeckt. Wegen all der spannenden Sportereignisse ist dann doch tatsächlich gestern auch schon die erste Socke fertig geworden.

When it was washed and blocked yesterday I casted on a new pair of socks for me. It’s Mega Boots Stretch and I found this color at Saturday when I was shopping, I didn’t know this color. Because yesterday I didn’t work but watched a lot of sports in tv the first sock is already finished.

Als nächstes will ich endlich Sadie fertigstellen, ich will sie unbedingt mit nach London Ende des Monats mitnehmen, das wird wohl zu schaffen sein!
Bleibt noch, meinen Kilometerstand zu aktualisieren für die 100 Miles by April 1st-Aktion:
Seit dem letzten Eintrag dazu bin ich 18 km gewandert und 51 km mit dem Rad gefahren, macht nun insgesamt einen Stand von 124 km oder 77,02 Meilen!

The next thing will be Sadie. I have to finished it, because I want to take Sadie with me when I’m going to London at the end of February.
Okay, and now here is the update for 100 Miles by April 1st. Since the last posting I managed to hike 18 km and to make 51 km with the bike. So I have totally 124km or 77,02 miles!

Heute muß ich ein Paket und mein Secret Pal feiern: Um 08:10 klingelte der Paketbote. Da ich noch im Bett lag, rannte ich ihm im Schlafanzug entgegen, ich weiß: das freut ihn immer ganz besonders. Ein Paket aus Chicago! Durch eine E-Mail von meinem Secret Pal wußte ich, daß auch Luftpolsterfolie drin sein mußte: stimmt, da ist sie:

Today I have to celebrate a parcel and my secret pal: the postie rang at 08:10 and because I was still in bed I ran downstairs in my pajamas, I know: he loves that. A parcel from Chicago! Because my secret pal wrote this in an a-mail I knew that inside it must be a lot of bubble wrap: right, here is it:

Und noch mehr Luftpolsterfolie, nie war ein Paket besser verpackt!!

And more of bubble wrap: I never saw a parcel which was better wrapped up!

Aber als ich all die Luftpolsterfolie entfernt hatte, stockte mir wieder einmal der Atem: was für wundervolle Sachen, viel zu viel für ein Foto!

Merino-Seide zum Spinnen, von meinem Pal liebevoll geflochten, wie kann ich es nur über’s Herz bringen, diesen Zopf jemals aufzumachen?!

Merino-Silk to spin in a wonderful color. Did you see this: my pal braided it and it looks great! (And now i know I have to look after a knitter from Chicago with cats ) I don’t know if I could bring myself to open the plait?!

Und ein wundervoller Strang Manos del Uruguay, sind das nicht phantastische Farben! Ich liebe diesen Strang! Er liegt nun auf meinem Schreibtisch, damit ich ihn als Augenschmeichler immer im Blick habe!

And a gorgeous skein of Manos del Uruguay. I love these colors! The skein is lying on my desktop to flatter my eyes.

Und ein Buch von meiner Wishlist: falls es hier doch noch mal Winter werden sollte, werde ich mir daraus einen Pulli stricken!

And a book from my wishlist. In case that there will be a real winter in Germany again I will knit a sweater from this book!

Und das Rätsel der Luftpolsterfolie ist auch gelüftet: ein coole Kaffeetasse passend zum wundervollen Kaffee, der schon durch die Folie herrlich duftet und dunkle Schokolade, die ich doch so sehr liebe.

We are not at the end: wonderful coffee (it smells so good!), the matching cool mug and my beloved dark chocolate.

Dazu eine total liebe und informative Karte über all die Geschenke und Chicago und der Beweis, daß es in Chicago einen “Christkindlmarket” gab, herrlich!
Während ich in der Küche die Fotos gemacht habe, hat sich meine Katze ihr Geschenk erobert und lag schon drin, als ich zurück kam, es ist so einfach, sie glücklich zu machen!

And my pal wrote such a nice and informative card about the gifts and Chicago and sends me the proof that there was a Christkindlmarket in Chicago – great!
While I was in the kitchen to take the pictures the cat discovered her gift and when I returned she was lying in the box, and so she still do. It’s so easy to make her happy

Liebe Secret Pal: du hast dich mal wieder selbst übertroffen, ich freue mich riesig über die tollen Sachen, eins ist schöner als das andere! Ich bin schon so gespannt, wer du bist, ich meine deinen Namen kenne ich ja schon, aber ich habe den passenden Blog immer noch nicht gefunden Tausend Dank!!

white sox or „red sox“

Wahrscheinlich ziehe ich mir nun den Unmut meines Secret Pals zu wegen des Wortspiels
Meine roten Kniestrümpfe aus Lana Grossa Mega Boots Stretch sind fertig und ich finde sie so cool!! Gebraucht habe ich 126 Gramm, die Wolle hat ja eine kürzere Lauflänge als „normale“ Sockenwolle.
Und seit gestern versuche ich mich etwas in das Regelwerk von Baseball einzulesen, denn ich habe eine liebe Postkarte von meinem Secret Pal aus Chicago bekommen mit dem Stadion der White Sox, in dem sie wohl öfter ist. Ich habe aber immer noch keine Ahnung, wer sie ist, obwohl ich die SP9-Teilnehmerliste schon ein bißchen durchforstet habe.

The red knee-length socks are finished and they are so cool! They are made from Lana Grossa Mega Boots Stretch and it took 126g.
Since yesterday I try to understand the rules of baseball because I got a nice postcard from my secret pal in Chicago with the White Sox‘ stadium and she’s obviously a big fan! In spite of her hints I don’t know who she is, although I combed through the SP9 Participants List.

For my secret pal to see that everything of your wonderful parcel is perfect: the cat loves the box and she is sleeping all the time in it!!

Last night I thought about what to knit next and so I read the pattern of the Adamas Shawl I’ve got from my secret pal and I understood that I’m slow to the uptake! I got the original yarn from my secret pal! That’s so great! Once again: thank you so much for this wonderful parcel!

Heute ist ein schöner Tag: mein erstes Paket von meinem Secret Pal ist angekommen! Nun weiß ich soviel: sie kommt aus den USA als Absender-Adresse ist Chicago angegeben: wie aufregend!!
Und so schön sah das Paket aus, als ich es öffnete:

Wahnsinn! Alles wundervolle Sachen: Die Anleitung zum Adamas Shawl, die ich mir gewünscht hatte. Und ein schönes Buch und so tolle Sockenwolle von Knit Picks: die ist traumhaft weich und die Farben sind phantastisch!! Und dann war auch noch ein sehr schöne Nadelbox aus Holz drin mit winzigen Blumen drauf, das gefällt mir sehr!

Great! A lot of amazing things: the pattern for Adamas Shawl I wished for! A great book and so beautiful yarn from Knit Picks! The yarn is so soft and I really love the colors! And there was such a cute wooden needle case with tiny flowers, I love it!

Geschenke stricken

Meiner guten Freundin C. bin ich noch ein Geburtstagsgeschenk schuldig, also habe ich seit der Rückkehr aus London nichts anderes gestrickt als das hier:

Since I returned from London I solely knitted the birthday present for my good friend C:

Sie hatte sich einen Snowdrop Shawl gewünscht, also kriegt sie einen. Er müßte auch am Wochenende fertig werden, viel fehlt nicht mehr.
Für mich will ich dann endlich Sadie fertig machen, sie dient gerade der Katze als Schlafplatz… Außerdem ist ein Swallowtail Shawl für mich geplant aus Drops Alpaka, die ich diese Woche bestellt habe, die aber noch nicht angekommen ist, was dem Snowdrop wiederum zu Gute gekommen ist

She wished for a Snowdrop Shawl and so she’ll get one. I think it will be finished at this weekend.
After this I will finish Sadie for me. At this moment the cat is sleeping on Sadie…
This week I ordered some Drops Alpaca for a Swallowtail Shawl for me but the parcel didn’t arrived yet, on the other hand that was good for the Snowdrop Shawl

Der Postbote brachte heute endlich das längst bestellte Folk Knitting in Estonia von Nancy Bush, in dem so wundervolle Handschuhe und Socken sind, wie z.B. bei Andrea zu sehen. Ich bin ja ein großer Freund von Fäustlingen und freue mich darauf, mir welche zu stricken.
Dann hat mein Vater demnächst Geburtstag und wünscht sich mal wieder schwarze Socken, die er natürlich auch kriegen soll.

This morning the nice postie brought me a parcel from uncle Amazon: Folk Knitting in Estonia by Nancy Bush. There are so wonderful mittens and socks, look Andrea’s mittens. I love and do wear mittens and so I’m looking forward to knit some for me!
But I have to knit a pair of black socks for my father’s birthday, he loves black hand-knitted socks.

Und weil mir hier das Alltagsleben noch gar nicht so recht gefallen will und die Arbeit diese Woche nicht schön war, habe ich mir etwas gegönnt: ich habe einfach den nächsten Flug nach London gebucht! Ende Februar geht’s wieder hin, dieses Mal auch etwas länger, das sind doch gute Aussichten!

Because this week there was a little bit trouble at work and the daily routine is boring me I had to please myself and I booked the next flight to London! At the end of February the trip will start and this time I’ll stay a few days longer. Isn’t that great?!

Von meinem Secret Pal habe ich eine nette virtuelle Karte zum Wochenende bekommen, danke! Und meine Hostess Nic hat einen kleinen Wettbewerb zum Wochenende ausgeschrieben: wir sollen irgendetwas über uns schreiben, was die anderen noch nicht wissen und auch nicht wissen können. Hm, schwierig, es soll ja auch nichts belangloses sein. Dann gebe ich mal etwas über mein Gefühlsleben preis: ich bin seit gestern sehr verliebt: kann mir ein Leben ohne ihn gar nicht mehr vorstellen und bedaure sehr, ihn nicht früher getroffen zu haben. Wieviel schöne Stunde hätten wir schon verbringen können! Aber nun haben wir das ganze Leben vor uns und ich werde mich freiwillig nie mehr von ihm trennen. Allein sein Name zergeht schon auf der Zunge, er sieht gut aus und ist bescheiden und nimmt nur ganz wenig Platz ein, er ist ruhig und zuverlässig – mein Switch:

Hm, that’s difficult… So, I sell something about my emotional life: yesterday I totally fell in love, I cannot imagine to live without him, I feel sorry about meeting him so late but now we have a life together, nothing can separate us (perhaps only a burnt out wire). His name is so wonderful, he is looking great, he is calm, modest and loyal – my switch:

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I prefer pure wool or other natural fibers or sock yarn with a little bit of poly-xy. I love alpaca. I absolutely hate something like “Brasilia”: fringed yarn (in German we call it “Fusselgarn”) or bouclé, 100% poly-xy: aarhg!!

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
For my circular needles I use a “Regia Box” (that’s a simple metal box) and I sewed some little bags for the circulars. For my dpn’s I sewed a little needle case.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I’m knitting for years, my level is intermediate.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yes, I’ll send you the link if you want.

5. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products, etc.)
I’m sorry: I hate candles with any scent! And I don’t like any flavored bath products.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Oh yes: I love very dark chocolate!

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
Yes, I’m spinning since almost a year.

Yes, my equipment can play MP3s. Music all over the place: Rock, Pop, classical music too but please no Techno!

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?
I like blue, red, orange, brown, black, green. I don’t like yellow.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
Single with one cat.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes, I wear scarves, hats and mittens. No Ponchos please! I think they are an undesirable trend

I love to knit socks and cardigans or shawls.

A pair of socks: Unst from Knitting on the Road by Nancy Bush and Sadie, a cardigan from Rowan Magazine.

Yes!!

Circular needles or for socks and other little pieces dpn’s, bamboo, ebony or rosewood.

I only own a Niddy Noddy.

See this posting: I gave the last UFO to the rubbish! It was about a year old.

18. What is your favorite holiday?
Day of Reunification: October 3.

For the books: see my Amazon wish list. I’m reading the Rowan Magazine, Interweave Knits, sometimes the Vogue Knitting and some German knitting magazines. There’s a pattern I would like to have: the Adamas Shawl by Miriam Felton.

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?
With every new project I learn something new or I learn, that I have to learn a new technique. I should train to knit with two colors.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes! I love to knit socks! My measurements: in German 40, that’s US 9
