Er ist fertig, der Notre Dame De Grace Pullover aus der Interweave Knits Sommer 2007.

I finished the Notre Dame De Grace Pullover from the summer issue 2007 of Interweave Knits.

Den zweiten Ärmel habe ich am Samstag Abend fertig gestrickt während eine gewisse Dame in den Untiefen von Ravelry schwelgte. Den Kragen habe ich am Sonntag bei Andrea gestrickt, die zu einem Treffen geladen hatte. Und es war gut, daß ich den Pullover mitgenommen hatte, da ich doch Verständnisprobleme beim Kragen hatte. Aber dank der tatkräftigen Unterstützung der auch noch anwesenden Strickerinnen Tanja, Sabine, Conny und Christine hat es dann doch noch geklappt. Zusammengenäht habe ich ihn am Sonntag Abend, als ich wieder daheim war. Gestern habe ich ihn dann gewaschen und in Omas Knopfdose diesen schönen Knopf ausgesucht.

I finished the second sleeve on Saturday in the evening while my visitor was reveling in her new Ravelry account. On Sunday we were at Andrea‚s and I took the pullover with me to the knitters meeting and this was a good decision because I had little difficulties to understand the pattern for the collar. But with the help of all the other knitters Tanja, Sabine, Conny and Christine I finished the collar. At home again I sewed the pullover in the evening. Yesterday I washed it and chose this wonderful button from my grandma’s button box.

Der Pullover ist leicht zu stricken und gefällt mir sehr gut. Die Ärmel sind mir zu lang geraten, aber wenn ich sie umschlage, ist es gut. Und für seinen Zweck, “smoking on the street”, ist er perfekt.

The pullover is easy to knit and I love it. The sleeves are too long but wheen I turn them up it’s okay. And the pullover will serve its purpose „smoking on the street“ perfectly.

Die Wolle ist selbst gesponnen aus der blauen Schottischen Multicolor von Seehawer & Siebert. Verbrauch: 850 Gramm. Gestrickt mit 4,00mm Nadeln.

The yarn is handspun from the blue Scottish Multicolor by Seehawer & Siebert, 850 grams, needles size 4.00mm.

Wanderlust

Nur wenig strickiges: ich bin am zweiten Ärmel des Notre Dame de Grace Pullovers und mußte schon dafür Wolle nachspinnen, soviel zu meiner optimistischen Berechnung der Lauflänge. Aber solange ich genügend Rohwolle habe, ist ja alles im grünen Bereich.
Heute habe ich die Wohnung auf Vordermann gebracht, da morgen ja lieber Besuch aus Berlin anreist, worauf ich mich sehr freue.
Zudem errreichte mich ein Hilfeanruf meines Vaters: Offensichtlich hatte er sich einen üblen Trojaner gefangen und jemand hatte sein Konto um ein paar tausend Euro erleichtert. Also Konto sperren, Überweisung rückgängig machen, ist ja glücklicherweise kein Problem, wenn man es rechtzeitig bemerkt, Anzeige erstatten und dann Tochter anrufen, damit die telefonisch den Computer sauber macht, bzw. Anweisungen dazu gibt. Hat ganz gut geklappt, dauerte aber dennoch beinahe zwei Stunden. Am Montag fahre ich zu ihm und nehme mir den Rechner nochmal selber vor und rüste auf. So geriet mein Tagesplan doch sehr außer Form und jetzt bin ich nur erledigt.

Only a little knit news: I’m knitting the second sleeve of the Notre Dame de Grace Pullover and I had to spin more yarn for it. Today I did a lot of household things because tomorrow Stricky is coming from Berlin for the weekend. That will be nice!


Aber gestern habe ich einen sensationell schönen Tag gehabt. Ich bin mit C., meiner allerliebsten Wanderfreundin nach Münsingen zum ehemaligen Truppenübungsplatz gefahren. Dorthin wollte ich schon lange. Seit 2006 ist das Gebiet der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich und es ist traumhaft: Natur pur, wenn man von den Straßen absieht, die man nicht verlassen darf, einerseits um das Biosphärengebiet zu schützen andererseits, weil das gesamte Gebiet mit Kampfmitteln verseucht ist:

Yesterday I had a wonderful day: a hiking tour with C. We went to Münsingen to visit the former proving ground. Today it is a nature reserve. It is forbidden to leave the streets for protecting the nature and because the whole area is full with old munition.

Ansonsten zeigt sich die Alb in ihrer ganzen herben Schönheit, die ich so liebe. Zunächst sind wir zum ehemaligen Dorf Gruorn gewandert, wo nur noch die Kirche und das alte Schulhaus stehen.

Apart from that you can see the full austere beauty of the Swabian Alb which I love so much. First we walked to the former village Gruorn, only the little church and the old school survived the resettlement of the village.

Danach sind wir zum Aussichtsturm Hursch gewandert: eine 42m hohes Stahlkonstruktion, die glücklicherweise nur am Wochenende besteigbar ist, unter der Woche muß man sich vorher den Schlüssel besorgen. Ich kann nämlich solche Gebilde nicht ohne Panikattacke besteigen.

Then we walked to a observation tower. A 42m girder construction but it was closed: happy me! I get panicking when I have to climb up such constructions.

Also insgesamt sind wir rund 17km gewandert, bei schönstem Wetter und in einer traumhaften Landschaft.

In all we walked 17km (10.56 miles) with great weather and in a beautiful landscape.

Lost in Space

Nicht, daß ich nichts zu berichten hätte. Aber in dieser Woche war ich mit ein paar Dingen so beschäftigt, daß ich immer dachte: morgen aber bloggst du mal darüber. So verging eine ganze Woche…
Zunächst gab es am Mittwoch die Bekanntgabe der SP11-Partner. Hach, ich glaube, das wird eine interessante Runde!
Dann muß natürlich die Neugierde von Stricky befriedigt werden, die ja schon vermutete, der Notre Dame de Grace Pullover sei vielleicht schon fertig. Nein, ist er natürlich noch nicht:

Aber Vorder- und Rückteil sind fertig und den ersten Ärmel will ich heute fertig machen, damit ich abschätzen kann, ob ich noch Wolle nachspinnen muß. Höchstwahrscheinlich brauche ich noch ein bißchen für den Kragen. Er gefällt mir sehr gut und weil das obige Foto in keinster Weise der Farbe gerecht wird, gibt es hier noch eine Detailaufnahme:

Dann will ich bekanntgeben, daß sich die Katze und ich verliebt haben. Wir sind beide gleichermaßen dem Coburger Fuchs verfallen, wenn auch nicht ganz aus den gleichen Gründen. Die Katze liebt die Weichheit, Wärme und den Geruch des Vlieses und ist kaum mehr davon abzubringen, sich stundenlang darauf zu räkeln.

Then I have to do an announcement: The cat and I we both fell in love with the Coburg Sheep . We have different reasons for our deep love. The cat loves the softness, warmth and smell of the fleece and she spends hours with lolling about it.

Ich hatte letztes Jahr bei Seehawer & Siebert ein Pfund Coburger Fuchs aus der Wanderschäferei gekauft und habe das nun angesponnen zwecks Stashabbau. Die Farbe hat es mir so angetan, daß ich mir nun bei Wollknoll noch ein Kilo gekauft habe, da ich unbedingt eine dicke rustikale Jacke daraus stricken will. Ich spinne zum ersten Mal aus dem Vlies und bin sehr begeistert, fällt mir leichter als aus dem Band und wird nicht das letzte Mal sein. 330 Gramm sind nun verzwirnt und gewaschen:

Last year I bought a pound Coburg sheep fleece at Seehawer & Siebert and I started to spin it a few days ago. I love the color so much that I’ve ordered another kilogram at Wollknoll. I want to make a warm rustic cardigan from it. It’s the first time that I’m spinning with a fleece and I like it, for me it is easier than spinning with combed tops (is this the correct term?). Now the first 330 grams are twisted and washed:

Viel Zeit habe ich auch in der Vergangenheit verbracht: meine Mutter hat auf dem Dachboden meines Großvaters eine Schachtel mit Briefen und Dokumenten gefunden und so war ich damit beschäftigt, alte Schrift zu entziffern und den Familienstammbaum zu ergänzen. Wenn ich da erst mal drin bin, komme ich so schnell nicht wieder raus. Faszinierend, wie Menschen, die längst verstorben sind, die ich nie kennengelernt habe, auf einmal die Türe zu ihrem Leben ein bißchen öffnen.

I spent a lot of time with the past. My mother found a box with old letters and documents at my grandpa’s attic and so I had to make out old handwriting and to complete the family tree. I love to spend time with this old things. It’s fascinating how people you never know become a little bit closer with you while reading their letters.

Endlich habe ich den dritten Strang der blauen Schottischen fertig gesponnen. Ich habe nun insgesamt 680 Gramm.

Finally I’ve spun the third hank of the blue Scottish. Now I have 680 grams of it.

Genug, um das neue Projekt anzugehen: es soll der Notre Dame de Grace Pullover aus der Interweave Knits Sommer 2007 werden, obwohl der Pullover bei mir einen anderen Arbeitsnamen hat, es soll der „ich-muß-nun-auf-der-Straße-rauchen-Pullover“ werden und spätestens bis zum nächsten London-Aufenthalt im Oktober fertig sein. Und für die erstaunten Eingeweihten sei nun auch noch meine Maschenprobe erwähnt, die nicht nur sensationellerweise gemacht wurde, sondern auch noch größer als die bisherigen ist :-)

It’s enough to start a new project: Notre Dame de Grace Pullover from Interweave Knits Summer 2007. But I gave it a new name: it’s the „now-I-have-to-smoke-on-the-street-pullover“ and I will finish it until London in October at the latest. And there is a little sensation: I’ve made a gauge :-)

Feeds aktualisieren!

Nach einem WordPress-Update funktionierten zumindest bei mir meine eigenen Feeds nicht mehr. Falls das auch bei euch so ist (so werdet ihr das nicht lesen, weil ihr ja nichts neues seht im Feedreader :-) ): bitte aktualisiert die Feed-Adresse, so leid es mir tut.

Auch hier: das Wetter

Es regnet. Es regnet so viel, daß es mir langsam auf’s Gemüt schlägt. Schade, daß es wieder so ein mieser August ist wo ich doch gerade unterrichtsfrei habe und eigentlich fröhlich durch Sommerwiesen hüpfen sollte. Also was macht man, wenn der Sommer wieder einmal nicht so richtig will? Man freut sich, daß man strickt, weil man sonst noch mieser gelaunt wäre. Hüllt sich in bereits gestrickte Tücher, trinkt sich endlich einmal durch den in London erworbenen Tee-Vorrat, nascht nebenbei Shortbread und Ingwer-Schokolade, die einem das Haus Stricky geschenkt hat und stellt sich vor, man lebe irgendwo auf dem Land in England und habe sich mit dem Wetter schon längst abgefunden – und man strickt. Gestern habe ich eigentlich den ganzen Nachmittag und Abend mit dem Border des Sampler Shawls verbracht. Der Border ist nett zu stricken: kurzer Rapport ohne links verschränkte Maschen, die mich während einiger Muster des Hauptteils gequält haben. Und weil alle Welt gerade Perlen in ihr Gestrick einarbeitet, sei es im Mystery Stole oder im Cobweb, wollte ich das auch mal ausprobieren. Nun bekommt jede Spitze des Borders eine winzige transparente Perle dazu, was das Stricken der wieder einmal endlos scheinenden Umrandung ein bißchen abwechslungsreicher macht.
Und heute werde ich Regen hin oder her fröhlich durch Sommerwiesen hüpfen!

It’s raining. It’s raining every day so I get melancholy. It’s another rainy August and actual I should frolic in summer meadows because it’s summer and I have not to give lessons. Okay, so what are you doing when it’s raining and the summer forgot its definition? You are happy that you are a knitter because otherwise you would be really unhappy. Wearing your knitted shawls, drinking all the good tea you bought in London, eating Shortbread and ginger chocolate you’ve got from Stricky‚s and you imagine that you’re living somewhere at the countryside in England and facing the weather (sorry for that stereotype) – and you’re knitting. Yesterday I spent nearly the whole afternoon and evening with knitting the border on the Sampler Shawl. It’s a nice border: short pattern without SSP’s. And because all over the knitting blogs world you can see beads be it Mystery Stole, be it Cobweb, I want to try this too. And so every peak of the border gets a little transparent bead. So the never ending border is a little bit more varied.
Whether it rains or not I will frolic today in summer meadows!

SP11 questionnaire

It’s time for the SP11 questionnaire. All posts to SP11 you’ll find in the left sidebar in the categorie Secret Pal 11.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I prefer pure wool or other natural fibers or sock yarn with a little bit of poly-xy. I love alpaca. I absolutely hate something like “Brasilia”: fringed yarn (in German we call it “Fusselgarn”) or bouclé, 100% poly-xy: aarhg!!

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
For my circular needles I use a “Regia Box” (that’s a simple metal box) and I sewed some little bags for the circulars. For my dpn’s I sewed a little needle case.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I’m knitting for years, my level is something between intermediate and advanced. I learnt it in school and my grandma taught me to knit socks.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yes, I’ll send you the link if you want.

5. What’s your favorite scent?
I’m sorry: I hate candles with any scent! And I don’t like any flavored bath products. I do not like any synthetic scents.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Oh yes: I love very dark chocolate!

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
Yes, I’m spinning since almost two years.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
Yes, my equipment can play MP3s. Music all over the place: Rock, Pop, classical music too but please no Techno or Rap!

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?
I like blue, red, orange, brown, black, green. I don’t like yellow.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
Single with one cat.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes, I wear scarves, hats and mittens. No Ponchos please! I think they are an undesirable trend 😉

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
I love to knit socks and cardigans or lace shawls.

13. What are you knitting right now?
Of course a pair of socks and the Sampler Shawl from Victorian Lace Today.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Yes!!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Circular needles or for socks and other little pieces dpn’s, bamboo, ebony or rosewood. I just bought one of the Addi Lace in 3.25mm and I love them!

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
I only own a Niddy Noddy.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?
8 months.

18. What is your favorite holiday?
Day of Reunification: October 3.

19. Is there anything that you collect?
No.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
For the books: see my Amazon wish list. I’m reading the Rowan Magazine, Interweave Knits, sometimes the Vogue Knitting and sometimes German knitting magazines.

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?
With every new project I learn something new or I learn, that I have to learn a new technique. I should train to knit with two colors. Just in moment I’m knitting the first times with beads.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes! I love to knit socks! My measurements: in German 40, that’s US 9

23. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)

I’m on the list :-) But today ‚there are 8053 people are ahead of me in line‘, so it will take a few weeks until I’m on.

Sabine und ich hatten einen kleinen privaten Socken Tausch (pss: private sock swap) vereinbart und heute war der Tag der Ankunft: Ich habe ein entzückend verpacktes Päckchen bekommen mit einer tollen Tafel Schokolade, einer japanischen Zeitung für die Katz und natürlich den Socken:

Sabine and I made a little private sock swap and today the socks arrived. I got a cute little package with good dark chocolate, a Japanese newspaper for the cat (the cat loves newspapers!) and wonderful socks:

Es sind die Waving Lace Socks aus Favorite Socks. Sie passen sehr gut und gefallen mir sehr. Beide hatten wir unabhängig voneinander Muster ausgesucht, die wir bisher noch nicht gestrickt hatten. Ich bin ganz begeistert ob dieser perfekten Ergänzung meines Sockenvorrats! Das wiederholen wir mal, gell!

The socks are the Waving Lace Socks from Favorite Socks. They fit very well and I love them. Both of us knitted a pattern which we never tried and I love this wonderful new member of my sock stash! I’m sure we’ll repeat this swap.

Der Sampler Shawl ist im Hauptstück fast fertig, muß aber heute ein bißchen ruhen, da ich seit gestern Abend eine höllisch schmerzende Stelle an der Hand habe, von der ich nicht genau weiß, wie und was. Und damit komme ich zum Aufreger des Tages: Als ich vorher bei meiner Hausarztpraxis angerufen habe, um herauszufinden, ob wohl ein Besuch meinerseits heute noch möglich sei, sagte mir die Trine von der Anmeldung: “Eine schmerzende Hand können wir nicht behandeln!” Mir fehlen selten die Worte, aber da war es so weit. Auf meine Entgegnung, sie seien aber doch meine Hausarztpraxis, wiederholte sie nur den Satz und meinte, ich solle halt zum Orthopäden gehen. Ich antwortete, daß ich aber nicht zum Orthopäden will (ich habe eine große, nein: sehr große Abneigung gegen Orthopäden) und da meinte sie dann, was anderes bliebe mir aber nicht übrig. Ich habe dann einen sehr unflätigen Satz gesagt und habe aufgelegt. Nach einem Besuch in der Apotheke meines Vertrauens habe ich nun einen hübschen selbstgemachten Voltaren-Verband und werde, wenn es in zwei Tagen nicht besser ist, mich auf die Suche nach einem neuen Hausarzt machen, der sich zutraut, eine entzündete Hand wenigstens anzuschauen.

The center pattern sequence of the Sampler Shawl is nearly finished but today I cannot knit because my right hand hurts very much. I made a nice little Voltaren-bandage and I hope that the pain will stop in a few days.
