See you next year!

Bei der traditionellen Wanderung am 2. Weihnachtsfeiertag wurden die Kilt Hose von C. schon eingetragen und so konnte ich ein Bild machen.
C. wore her new Kilt Hoses when we made our traditional hiking tour on Boxing Day. So I could take a picture.

Und dann habe ich pünktlich zum Abflug noch meinen Schal aus Rowan Cocoon fertig gemacht. Ein Traum in Schneeweiß, nie was weicheres in den Händen gehabt! Ich habe 36 Maschen angeschlagen, 3 rechts, 3 links gestrickt mit Nadelstärke 6. Verbrauch: 3 Knäuel, also 300 Gramm. Größe (ungespannt): 17cm x 180 cm.
Right in time I’ve finished my simple scarf with Rowan Cocoon. I love it. The yarn is the softest I’ve ever touched! I casted on 36 stitches, then knitted k3, p3 with needle size 6mm. I needed three balls: 300 grams. Size (unblocked): 17cm x 180 cm.

Und nun möchte ich mich für dieses Jahr von Euch verabschieden: morgen früh geht der Flieger nach London! Ich komme am 02. Januar wieder und freue mich wahnsinnig auf den Jahreswechsel in London! Ich danke für das eifrige Lesen und kommentieren und wünsche euch einen guten Rutsch!

Weihnachtswunder

Nie hätte ich gedacht, daß ich es doch noch schaffe, diese Kniestrümpfe pünktlich fertig zu stricken! Deshalb sind sie mein kleines persönliches Weihnachtswunder und werden heute abend noch verschenkt. Details folgen dann die Tage.
I’ve never thought that I would finish these stockings right in time. They are my personal little Christmas miracle and will be a gift this evening. More details will follow the next days.

Glücklich, wer eine Mütze hat

Es gibt Tage, da ist man so richtig froh, stricken zu können. Gestern war ich mal wieder wandern auf der Alb und hatte meine am Abend zuvor gestrickte Rebecca-Mütze dabei. Es war herrlich: endlich mal wieder klare Sicht, Sonne und klirrende Kälte und eine warme Mütze auf dem Kopf, die den Härtetest prima überstanden hat.
Sometimes I’m really happy about to be a knitter. Yesterday I was hiking and wore my new hat that I’ve finished the evening before. It was great: after foggy days light again and the sun! It was icy cold and I was so happy that I had the new hat!

Und als mich mein Vater gestern vormittag mit der Mütze sah, probierte er sie gleich auf, befand sie für gut und wollte auch eine. Also habe ich gestern Abend gleich nochmal eine gestrickt. Außerdem fiel mir für meinen Opa nichts anderes als Geschenk ein und so bekommt er nun ein paar Socken. Und weil Opa es gerne sehr warm und gemütlich hat, stricke ich ihm die Socken aus 6-facher Sockenwolle.
Yesterday I met my parents in the morning for a coffee and when my dad saw my new hat he tried it and wanted me to knit another one for him. So last night I made the second black hat for dad. And I’ve knitted a sock for my grandpa. I had no idea what to give him for Christmas. So I decided to knit him a pair of extra warm socks made with thick sock yarn.

Und zur Erweiterung des Bücherregals kam noch ein neues Buch: knitting little luxuries von Louisa Harding. Ein paar entzückende Sachen sind da drin, u.a. gefallen mir die Tasche vom Titel und ein niedliches Mützchen.
And a new book arrived (the last for this year :-) ): knitting little luxuries by Louisa Harding. There a few really amazing patternsin it. I love the bag from the cover and especially the Alice Beret.

Kaufrausch

Momentan kompensiere ich meine knappe Strickzeit und meinen Unmut darüber mit Einkäufen. Heute morgen noch rumgemault, daß die bestellte Sockenwolle immer noch nicht da ist – gerade war der beste Paketbote der Welt da und überreichte mir meine Jahresendvorratsbestellung: Ein bißchen Regia in zweifelhaften Farben (sahen auf der Farbkarte natürlich besser aus) und ganz viel Trekking. Achja: und ein Nadelspiel in Größe 2,25mm.
In this days of little-knitting-time I’m compensating for my displeasure about it with shopping. This morning the best postie ever brought me a big parcel with a lot of sock yarn for my stash: a few balls of Regia in strange colors (they looked better at the color chart) and a lot of Trekking sock yarn and 2.25mm dpn’s.

Dann kamen diese Woche noch zwei neue Bücher an: Inspired Fair Isle Knits von Fiona Ellis. Der Schal auf dem Titelbild gefällt mir sehr gut, von den anderen Sachen bin ich enttäuscht was die Farben und Muster angeht. Zumindest sind ein paar brauchbare Modelle drin, die mir vom Schnitt her gefallen. Und dann noch Knitting Classic Style von Véronik Avery. Schönes Buch! Darin hat es mir vor allem das Military Jacket angetan.
Two new books arrived: Inspired Fair Isle Knits by Fiona Ellis. I love the scarf you can see on the cover, I’m disappointed about the other patterns. And Knitting Classic Style by Véronik Avery. I love this book! A lot of beautiful patterns, I really want to knit the Military Jacket when I’ll have time enough again.

Doch daran ist im Moment nicht zu denken, da ich wie nahezu jedes Jahr noch Weihnachtsauftragssocken fertig machen muß. Die ehemalige Chefin meiner Mutter bettelt mich immer an und dieses Jahr habe ich mich erweichen lassen, ihr drei paar Socken zu stricken. Da bei ihr Bunt immer gut ankommt, ist das eine gute Gelegenheit, die letzten Sockenwollsünden zu verstricken, die sich noch in meinem Besitz befinden :-)
But first I have to finish three pair of socks. I’m knitting them for my mum’s former boss. She asks me every year to knit three pair of socks for her daughter and grandchilds and this year I could not say no. Because she loves self patterned sock yarn I’m using the last yarn-sins of my stash :-)

2. Advent

Ich hatte ein freies Wochenende und habe das auch gut genutzt. Gestern war ich wandern und weil alles so naß war, glänzte wenigstens das Moos schön:

Heute habe ich immerhin zwei Sorten Plätzchen (oder wie es hier heißt: Gutsle) gebacken. Einmal normale Ausstecherle und dann noch Schokoladenplätzchen, die ich sehr liebe. Sollte für mich doch reichen 😉

Today I started the Christmas bakery: I’ve baked two sorts: simple „Ausstecherle“ and chocolate cookies. I guess this will be enough for me 😉

Schon vor einiger Zeit habe ich diese Truhe vom Dachboden meines Opas gerettet. Es lagerten die Lore-Romanheftchen meiner verstorbenen Oma darin. Die Truhe müßte aus den Zwanzigern oder frühen Dreißiger Jahre stammen, die Sitzfläche oben ist noch mit Stroh gepolstert. Lange habe ich überlegt, was da rein soll. Aber nach der letzten Sockenwäsche war es klar: es ist meine Sockentruhe! Die Schubladen quellen über und es gehen auch nicht mehr alle Socken rein. Hier haben alle Platz (naja, die Kniestrümpfe lagern woanders und zählen nicht mit). Ihr seht 50 Paar Socken, der Rest ist in der Wäsche. Insgesamt müßten es so zwischen 60 und 70 Paar sein…

A few week ago I recovered this chest from my grandpa’s attic. I think it was built in the twenties or early thirties. The upholstery is made with straw. I thinked about what to put in it but after the last sock wash it was clear: it would be my sock chest. I have so much socks that I can’t put all of them in drawers. In this chest all my socks can be stowed away. You can see 50 pairs of socks, the rest is in the wash. In all I have approximate 60-70 pairs (not include the stockings)…

Nikolausi

Alles ist noch pünktlich angekommen! Unser kleiner Nikolaus Socken-Swap war ein voller Erfolg: Sabine hatte die Idee, Dana hat die Glücksfee gegeben (und macht dann nächstes Jahr mit?!) und Andrea hat heute tatsächlich ihre Strümpfe pünktlich in Empfang nehmen können. Bei mir hat mein Lieblingspaketbote eine Viertelstunde vor meinem Aufbruch zum Bahnhof geklingelt, so daß ich das große Vergnügen hatte, vor meinem harten Arbeitstag noch schnell das wundervolle Päckchen von Sabine aufzumachen und gleich einen Teil davon im Zug genießen zu können:

erst am späten Abend kam ich wieder heim und konnte endlich die wundervollen Socken, die Sabine mir gestrickt hatte, anprobieren. Und was soll ich sagen: sie passen perfekt, fühlen sich wunderbar an und leuchten herrlich.

When I came back in the late evening I tried the wonderful socks Sabine made for me and they fit really perfect! It’s sock yarn by Wollmeise and I never saw it in real but the colors are really amazing and the yarn is very soft.

Cable Rib Socks, Interweave Knits Spring 2005. Dear Sabine: thank you so much for the wonderful parcel!

Es sind die Cable Rib Socks aus der Interweave Knits Frühjahr 2005, gestrickt aus Wollmeise „Rittersporn“. Es ist das erste Mal, daß ich Wollmeise in den Händen halte und ich bin sehr beeindruckt: herrlich weich und glänzend und die Farben sind wirklich prächtig. Und weil ich dir, liebe Sabine nochmals danken möchte, habe ich extra die Katz gebeten, neben den Socken zu posieren und tata:

Nicht unerwähnt sollen 150 Gramm feinster Schokolade bleiben, über die ich mich ebenso gefreut habe (und ich habe im Gegensatz zu den anderen Damen noch nichts genascht :-) ). Mädels, das machen wir nächstes Jahr wieder!!

Ich würde ja wirklich gerne was strickiges zeigen…. wenn es denn was gäbe. Meine eigenen Projekte wie zum Beispiel der Strickmantel für London (haha, Mantel für London 2010 wird das wohl eher) dümpelt immer noch vor sich hin, nicht mal der Schal aus Rowan Cocoon ist fertig. Die wenige Zeit, die ich gerade zum Stricken habe, nutze ich für Geschenke, heute muß zum Beispiel das höchstgeheime Nikolausprojekt fertig werden, damit es eben auch am Bestimmungstag bei der Empfängerin ankommt. Wie gut, daß ich gestern Abend, als ich spät heimkam, die Nachricht auf dem Anrufbeantworter hatte, daß der Termin am heutigen Nachmittag ausfällt. Man kann ja schlecht den Kunden selbst anrufen und sagen: tut mir leid, aber wir müssen den Termin verschieben, ich muß noch einen Socken fertig stricken, das verstehen Sie doch sicher!

I wish I could show some knitting… but there is nothing to show. The projects for me are at a standstill. The green coat I wanted to wear in London this year will be probably finished in 2010. Neither the scarf with Rowan Cocoon is finished. I’m using the little knitting time for gifts. So I have to finish the top secret Nikolaus-project today so that the gift will be at the receiver’s in time. So it was great when I came back late last night to hear on the answering machine that an appointment this afternoon was canceled by the client himself. I can’t really afford to call a client and say: I’m so sorry but we have to cancel the appointment – I have to finish a sock, you will fully understand this!

Dann zeige ich euch halt meine neuen Bücher. Dank an meine Nichte, die mir eine E-Mail mit ihrem Geburtstagswunsch schickte. Ich konnte unmöglich in den örtlichen Spielzeugladen gehen, um diese häßlichen, sinnlosen und vermutlich giftigen Plastikfigürchen zu kaufen, man schämt sich ja. Also habe ich bei Onkel Amazon bestellt und dort gleich mal in den Strickbüchern gestöbert, um mir das Porto zu sparen und vor allem, um mir was Gutes zu tun.

Because of this today only new books. Thanks to my niece. She sent me an e-mail with her birthday wish list and I could not go to the local toy store to buy those ugly, useless and surely toxic plastic dolls – I was feeling ashamed. And so I asked uncle Amazon to send me the dolls and by the way I ordered two new books.

Einmal Debbie Stoller „Son of Stitch’n Bitch“, ein Buch nur mit Männerprojekten, darunter ein paar wirklich schöne Pullis, traumhafte Handschuhe, die ich mir stricken will und ein paar witzige Mützen.
Dann noch von Lynne Barr „Knitting New Scarves“. Ich bin echt begeistert: mal was ganz anderes. Ein paar richtig abgefahrene Schals sind da drin, ich wüßte auf Anhieb drei oder vier Modelle, die ich gerne hätte!

First „Son of Stitch’n Bitch“ by Debbie Stoller, a real nice book with projects for men. And there are really nice sweaters, hats and wonderful gloves (I want them for myself!).
Then „Knitting New Scarves“ by Lynne Barr: I love it! Really nice and exceptional patterns. There are three or four scarves in the book I really want to knit for myself.
